White Castle Wedding, Movie, Veggie Burger?

Postby Dave » Fri May 21, 2004 12:13 pm

An article in yesterday's New York Daily News tells the tale of a couple in Long Island (or Longiland if you live there) who fell in love at the counter of White Castle over a sack full of sliders and held a white wedding in the restaurant.

The plot of Kenneth & Lynda Muxie's story has all the ingredients of a cable TV-movie... hamburger boy meets counter girl and they fall in love, but they both go their separate ways in life. You see, they both love the belly bombers, but they argue fiercely over whether or not the clam strips are a meal or an appetizer.

For years, they think about each other every time they scarf down a sack of cheesies or see bullet-proof glass at the bank. Later, after each marries another and has a divorce they meet, and fall in love all over again. Ken places a chicken ring on Lynda's finger and asks for her hand in marriage. They hold the reception at White Castle... their wedding cake is made of the clam strips that once tore them apart. Hello? Is anyone from the Food Network reading this?

Sounds like me and my buddies every Saturday night... why not make a movie about us? "Brian's Belly and the Bronx Belly Bombers."

And we would actually eat the murder burgers. It turns out that Kal Penn, who plays Kumar, is a vegetarian and refused to eat White Castle beef for the camera. They had technicians in the movie make veggie Castles for him.

Spurred on by this and his brother who works for PETA, he's going to present White Castle execs with a PETA-produced paper urging the inclusion of veggie burgers in the menu... on the day that he is inducted into the White Castle Hall of Fame.

Of course, we all know that White Castles are not really made of meat anyway. The reason it's called a White Castle, or a slider, or a belly bomb and not a hamburger is for legal purposes, as a real hamburger would have to have beef in it. Calling it a White Castle allows the White Castle people to sidestep the FDA and all those pesky regulations they have about food.

Food or not, they taste great. Perhaps it's the five patented loose-leaf binder sized "flavor holes," or the fact that it's made out of materials that were reversed-engineered from spacecrafts that crash landed from another planet (and if broken down and analyzed, scientists would find no actual nutritional value--although it does have an insulation rating of R-12 and can handle speeds exceeding mach 9). No matter... I keep eating them at 3 am when I'm drunk.

Veggie Castle? Uggh.

Not every food establishment in the world NEEDS to offer a vegetarian menu. Sometimes a business just caters to one type of menu and people who like it will go there. If I don't like pizza, I won't go to a pizza place... I won't ask them to sell hamburgers.

Kal’s a vegetarian, so DUH, he obviously WOULD “refuse” to eat meat. As for thinking, he’s a supporter of PETA, it’s his bro that’s the animal-rights freak. Kal is an actor, not an activist. Get it straight!

As for this little blurb in your post:

“Spurred on by this and his brother who works for PETA, he's going to present White Castle execs with a PETA-produced paper urging the inclusion of veggie burgers in the menu... on the day that he is inducted into the White Castle Hall of Fame”.

...the responsible thing for you to have done, was to include a follow-up post stating what REALLY happened.

As a half-assed, uncredited journalist, I stand by my ridiculous summary of the White Castle events of the past week... including my irresponsible refusal to link to a follow-up story that didn't exist until this morning.
