Pop A Cherry
By Infamous Famous Belly Buddy Mark Higgins
Sam Adams Cherry Wheat is a flowery brew that likes to explore the softer, feminine side of beer. I like to think of beer as a very traditional beverage. Im certainly not opposed to trying new things, but I always tend to compare what I try to the traditional "beer" flavor. Men always seem to like their drinks straight up, whereas women like their drinks with something in it (fruit) or something missing from it (a worm). Cases of comparison in point: a Cosmopolitan vs. a Sapphire martini, an umbrella vs. a coffee bean, and a shot of something green vs. a shot of something black. What I'm eventually saying is that Sam Adams Cherry Wheat is a beer that caters to the taste of women.
I popped my Cherry during a visit to a friend's house- he had an assortment of orphan beers that weren't consumed at a party leftover in the refrigerator. I did my part to help make some room for the half-gallon of milk that wouldnt fit because of all the excess.
When I first opened the bottle I did what Jim Kochs great-grandfather would have done- I took a sniff. It was very aromatic and very sweet smelling. I poured the beer into a cold, frosty glass and was pleased by the golden color and perfect head that formed (and wouldnt you know it- the bottle cap really does float on the head). As suspected the first sip revealed the sweetness of the beer. The taste was not cherry but more like what a candy manufacturer thinks cherry tastes like; it was a little artificial. But, to this beers' credit, it did a good job blending the flavors. The wheat flavor was nice and not subtle at all; the cherry flavor was not as over-powering as I expected it to be. There was also that hint of spiciness that Sam Adams is known for in its specialty brews. The Cherry Wheat proved to be a pleasant mixture of textures, but the sweetness made it a little prohibitive to drink more than two of these beers (and whats the use if youre not drinking more than two beers).
In the end, we made room in the fridge for the milk, and the orange juice, and the steak, and the Gatorade that we will probably need tomorrow. I think that the Samuel Adams Cherry Wheat is a worthy beer for people (read women) who enjoy beer, but need their beer to taste like something else.

10Don» I like this beer but when I drink 4-5 in one night I get the shits the next day! Michigan cherries are high in dietary fiber. Be warned. 10Boaz93» I drink a couple when I go the The Outback Steakhouse. There they put a couple maraschino cherries in it.... 4Mick» One of the worst Sam Adams. Sorry Jim Koch. 11olmoondawg» Great beer, I first tried this 11 years ago and I still enjoy it to this. Great taste, full aroma. I reccomend this beer for parties and gatherings 8TimtheShaman» A lot of people say the cherry flavor is overwhelming over the malt and hops. I personally think the balance is there. Great taste for the beginning of Autumn and you won't find yourself knocking back more than you should. A good fruit brew. 11mr. steve» drinking beer brewed with cherries does not subtract from one's manliness.this is a great beer! 0Rover» Im not sure a dog would not drink any sam adams crap . notice I did not call it beer .it all sucks! 11Picky beer drinker» Light but interesting, goes with a lot of things, reliable. My favorite for beginning a meal or light party drinking. 8rokndady» I like it, I agree it starts out tasting a wee bit like cough medicine, but after the 2nd or 3rd one...nice! 8Danielle » So far, this is my favorite fruit beer. It's easy to get sick of, and I wouldn't recomend drinking a ton at once, but overall, it's a good beer.

"Make sure that the beer - four pints a week - goes to the troops under fire before any of the parties in the rear get a drop." -Winston Churchill to his Secretary of War, 1944.
